Summer 1 Week 5
➗ Maths
In Maths, we explored money and different denominations, encouraging the children to become familiar with a range of coins and notes. They learnt to recognise and name each value, as well as begin to understand how different combinations can make the same amount. The children practised practical skills such as counting money and comparing values, helping them to develop confidence in real-life mathematical situations.
✏️ English
In English, we completed reading comprehension related to rainbows, where the children practised retrieving information from the text as well as answering questions in full sentences. Alongside this, we continued our work on spelling, handwriting and grammar. The children focused on forming their letters correctly, applying spelling patterns and using punctuation accurately within their written work.
🌍 Geography
During our Western Europe topic, we compared London and Paris. The children explored similarities and differences between the two cities, including landmarks, transport systems and culture. They developed their understanding of human and physical geography while using maps and images to support their learning.

🕰️ History
In History, we found out about Simon de Montfort and his role in the development of Parliament. The children learnt about how his actions helped to give people a greater voice in decision-making, and discussed why this was an important step towards democracy.

🔬 Science
In Science, we explored the features of different types of soil. The children observed and compared soils such as clay, sandy and chalky soil, identifying their properties. They discussed how soil supports plant growth and considered why different types of soil are found in different environments.
