Summer 1 Week 2
➗ Maths
This week in Maths, the children developed their data‑handling skills by learning how to use tally charts, tables and pictograms. They practised collecting information, representing it clearly, and answering simple questions about the data, helping to build their confidence in interpreting information.
✏️ English
In English, our focus was on spelling and grammar, particularly recognising and using singular and plural nouns correctly in sentences. Alongside this, we learnt about St George’s Day, exploring its background and significance. The children used their creativity to design story spinners, which helped generate ideas and support imaginative storytelling.
🌍 Geography
In Geography, we explored the history of New Zealand, with a focus on Māori culture. The children learnt about traditions, customs and ways of life, and compared these with English culture, helping them develop an understanding of cultural similarities and differences.

🕰️ History
During History lessons, we investigated cotton spinning and the impact of the Industrial Revolution. The children learnt about Richard Arkwright and explored how cotton production changed from being handmade to mechanically produced, recognising how these developments affected people’s lives and work.

🔬 Science
In Science, we continued our topic on astronomy, focusing on gravity. The children learnt what gravity is and explored how it affects planets and objects in space, discussing why planets stay in orbit and what would happen without gravity.
