Spring 1 Week 4

Maths
This week in Maths, the children completed their end‑of‑unit assessments and also deepened their understanding of the 5 and 10 times tables. They practised recognising patterns, using groups, and applying these facts to solve problems with increasing confidence.

✏️ English
In English, the children completed their reading and GPS assessments. Alongside this, we continued exploring the poetry of James Carter and shared his playful poem Splish, Splash, Splosh. The class enjoyed discussing the rhythm, sound words and lively imagery that make his poems so memorable.

🌍 Geography
In Geography, we explored Yorkshire, identifying some of its towns and cities. The children learnt about key features of the region and enjoyed locating places such as York, Leeds and Sheffield on a map.

🕰️ History
In History, we researched and recorded key details about the Seven Years’ War. The children learnt when it took place, who was involved, and why it is considered a significant global conflict in British and world history.

🔬 Science
In Science, we began to explore the parts of a flower and their role in pollination. The children were introduced to structures such as the petals, stigma, stamen and anthers, and learnt how insects help plants transfer pollen so that new seeds can grow.
