Spring 1 Week 1

Maths

In Maths, we have been focusing on ordering numbers up to 20. The children used a variety of practical resources, such as number cards and counting objects, to help them understand the concept of sequencing. They enjoyed hands-on activities that encouraged teamwork and problem-solving. This skill is an important foundation for future work in addition and subtraction.

English

Our English lessons introduced poetry this week. We began by completing comprehension activities to understand the meaning behind different poems. The children were particularly excited to explore alliteration—how repeating initial sounds can make poetry more fun and memorable. They experimented with creating their own short phrases using alliteration, which sparked lots of creativity and laughter!

Geography

In Geography, we explored rivers in Europe. The children have explored how rivers shape landscapes and why they are so important for life and trade.

History

This term, our History topic is the Anglo-Saxon period. We started by looking at the different kingdoms that existed in Britain during this time. The children worked on labelling maps to identify these kingdoms and discussed how they influenced the development of early Britain. They showed great enthusiasm and asked thoughtful questions about life during this era.

Science

We are excited to begin our new Science topic on light. In our first session, we explored the importance of sunlight and how it supports life on Earth. The children discovered that we can only see objects when light travels from them into our eyes—either directly from a light source or after bouncing off an object. This sparked lots of curiosity, and we will continue to build on this knowledge in the coming weeks with practical investigations.
