Week 3

It has been another productive week in 5/6 Aspire. Our pupils have continued to adapt to the routines we have established, enjoying the diverse learning experiences that each week presents.

.

In mathematics, we have focused on estimating numbers on a number line, ordering objects, and counting in multiples of 2, 5, and 10. To enhance understanding, we have employed concrete resources such as cubes, counters, and everyday items, allowing students to manipulate objects in a tangible manner that reinforces their learning.

Our English lessons have been particularly engaging, as the pupils have created rules for their own board games and described their own mythical creatures. Additionally, they have participated in a creative exercise where they expressed what items they would take if stranded on a desert island, fostering their imaginative skills and descriptive writing.

In history, we have continued our study of Baghdad in 900 CE, concentrating on understanding the layout and significance of the city. The pupils have successfully labelled a map of Baghdad and identified various buildings and structures that were prominent during that era, enriching their historical knowledge.

Our geography sessions have focused on spatial awareness, where students explored coordinates at a more advanced level. This week, they undertook an engaging task to locate the Easter Bunny's Easter egg by identifying its coordinates, which reinforced their understanding of the subject matter in a fun and interactive way.

In science, our exploration of the human body led us to investigate heart rates and the effects of physical activity. The pupils made predictions regarding their heart rates during exercise and subsequently tested these predictions, thereby gaining valuable insights into the relationship between physical activity and bodily functions.

Moreover, we were pleased to welcome Mrs Walmsley, our trust SENCO, who provided positive feedback regarding the Aspire Suite and the learning occurring within it. Her visit has further encouraged our commitment to meet the diverse needs of all our pupils.
