Week 3
As the weeks progress, it is heartening to see the children becoming increasingly familiar with our expectations and engaging positively with our timetable. They have shown commendable enthusiasm in participating in a diverse range of tasks and activities throughout each day.
In Mathematics, we have delved into counting from a given number, as well as finding one more or one less than a specified figure. The pupils have also developed their skills in comparing groups of objects and numbers using symbols for less than (<), greater than (>), and equal to (=). We have employed concrete resources, such as cubes, to support their understanding by allowing them to manipulate objects directly.
Our English lessons have provided a delightful creative outlet this week, with students crafting rules for their own board games and inventing descriptions for mythical creatures. Additionally, they have engaged their imaginations by considering the essential items they would take with them if stranded on a desert island.
In History, we have continued our exploration of life during the Bronze Age. A particular highlight was our virtual visit to Stone Henge, during which the children described what it might feel like to be present at this historical site. They also examined artefacts from that era to gain insights into the lives of individuals during that time.
In Geography, we have transitioned from working on coordinates to investigating how to measure scales for maps. The students practised scaling down maps by measuring distances between designated points and subsequently converting them from centimetres to kilometres, thereby replicating life-size measures.
In Science, we furthered our study of the human body by labelling the nervous system and identifying the functions of the cerebellum, spinal cord, and brain stem. A recap of last week's material also reinforced their understanding of the locations of various bones.
Additionally, we had the pleasure of a visit from Mrs. Walmsley, our Trust SENCO, who provided positive feedback regarding the Aspire Suite and the ongoing learning that is taking place. Her encouraging remarks have invigorated our teaching environment.
