  • Summer 2 - Week 1

    In English, we started our new unit of work, which is an explanation text. Our first lesson focussed on understanding the shapes, learning what the features were. We then had an example of the text to match the shapes. 

    In History, we began our new unit of work on the War of the Roses. The first lesson looked at the two leaders of the House of York and House of Lancaster, the reason behind the War of the Roses and the importance of the roses. 

                    

    In Geography, we have been looking at India and China. We identified that Asia was the continent that India and China belonged to. We used our atlas to label the countries in Asia. We identified the capital cities of Asia and India and the population.

    In Science, we completed an experiment looking at forces and how the effect of a force is to make something move, or change speed, direction or shape.​ We identified that a force is a push or pull and the impact that gravity has.

  • Summer 1 - Week 6

    In English, we completed our independent writing where we wrote a story as if we were from the stone like a Stone Age Boy.

    In Maths, we continued looking at fractions of amount and practising our arithmetic.

    In History, we role-played the meeting of the first Parliament after the Battle of Lewes.

                           

    ​In Science, we looked at Mary Anning and discovered why she became famous, her early life and later life. 

    ​

    In our grammar lesson, we identified and used subordinating conjunctions.

  • Summer 1 Week 5

    In Geography, we looked at France and used our ipads to help us research different facts. 

    In Science, we completed an experiment looking at which rocks were permeable and impermeable. 

    In History, we looked at the Magna Carter. We looked at King John and discussed how he was made to sign the document.

    In PSHE, we looked at the UN conventions regarding the rights of a child. We discussed the rights of a child and completed a poster.

                                                                             

    In English, we have been planning and writing our independent writing, discussing our success criteria. 

    In Maths, we have been continuing with our learning of fractions and practising some arithmetic skills.

  • Summer 1 - Week 4

    In Maths, we have been continuing our learning with fractions, where we have looked at fractions on a number line. We have also been practising our arithmetic skills.

    In English, we have continued with our sentence stacking lessons, focusing on adverbials, similes and using descriptive vocabulary.

    In History, we looked at King John and the crusades. We discussed what the crusades were and who Saladin was. The children then answered some questions where they had to find out information about King John, explain what the crusades were and who Saladin was and what he was remembered for.

    In PSHE, we have looked at online safety, discussing how some games can appear to be great games, but however, when looking into them, they are fake games. We discussed top tips for online safety and created our own posters.

    In Guided reading, we had an extract of Stig of the Dump. This week, we have had to answer some retrieval questions, including what, when and who. We have also used the same piece of text to help develop our inference skills.

    In Art, we have used clay to create our own tiles based on a sea/plant design. 

    In Spanish, we have been consolidating and revising all ten verbs and how to put them into a sentence, using sé + infinitive verb.

  • Summer 1 - Week 3

    In English, we have been continuing our sentence stacking lessons where we have looked at questions, fronted adverbials, adjectives and similes.

    In Maths, we have been continuing with our maths learning, where we have been looking at fractions, we have been identifying non-unit and unit fractions. We have also looked at understanding the whole and adding fractions together to make 1 whole.

    In History, we looked at Thomas Becket and Henry II and created a timeline based on the events leading up to Thomas Becket's death.

    In PSHE, we looked at friendships and how to solve conflicts using the solve-it-together code. The children worked in groups with a scenario and identified how they could solve the problem, how each person might be feeling, and what they could do next time.

  • Summer 1 - Week 2

    In History, we looked at Law and Power, where we focused on Henry II and his influence under today's law and power. We discussed how previously people were trialled by ordeal either by fire, water or combat. We discussed whether we thought these trials were unfair or not. 

    In English, we began our sentence stacking lessons focussing on the text 'Stone Age Boy'. We have looked at how the boy may have felt, used adjectives, adverbial phrases, verbs and prepositions. 

     

    In Maths, we have continued with arithmetic practice and also looked at fractions, where we have looked at understanding denominators and comparing and ordering unit fractions. 

                 

    In Geography, we looked at Western Europe and identified the countries in this part of Europe. We also looked at the language people speak in these countries, capital cities and famous landmarks.

    In Guided reading, we looked at an extract from a story where we used the thesauruses and dictionaries to help us with understanding new vocabulary. We answered retrieval and inference questions using the same text.

    In Science, we looked at how sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous are formed and completed the chocolate rock cycle experiment to help with our understanding.

  • Summer 1 - Week 1

    In English, we have finished our independent writing, where we have written our draft copy, edited it and rewrote our final draft. 

    In Science, we have begun our new topic, which is rocks. The children thoroughly enjoyed being able to explore the different rocks and organise them into groups. We looked at the colour of each rock, the texture and also the weight. We discussed that scientists who study rocks are called geologists and gathered vocabulary to describe rocks.

    In Grammar, we have looked at a or an and prefixes and suffixes. 

    In Maths, we have focussed on arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

    We also had our first swimming lesson, which was incredible. The children demonstrated our school values and rules well and enjoyed the experience. 

    In Spanish, we looked at verbs.

    In Maths, we completed some arithmetic practice. 

    In Science, we looked at how seeds disperse.

    In Geography, we looked at food from the South-West and how the climate helps farmers to grow their crops.

    In History, we looked at the Viking gods and goddesses and create a fact file.

  • Spring 2 - Week 3

    We have had a wonderful, busy week with lots of activities going on.

    We have the pleasure of having Rock Kidz back in school sharing a wonderful song all about kindness through music. We also have had a Road Safety Magic show where pupils have identified how to stay safe on the road.

    In Maths, we have been looking at the bus stop method to divide numbers using counters to support our learning.

               

    In English, we have been continuing with our sentence stacking lessons where we have focused on noticing, adjectives, adverbs and questions.

    In Art, we have been learning about the Bayeux Tapestry, where we have then recreated one of the ships using tissue paper.

  • Spring 2 - Week 2

    In PSHE, we completed a circuit and looked at our bodies and how to stay healthy. We identified how much sugar was in certain foods.

    In Maths, we have been multiplying using the column method. We have looked at multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit and 3 digits by 1 digit.  

    In Science, we looked at how different plants need different things in order to thrive.​

    In Geography, we looked at erosion, what it is and how it has caused natural features to occur.

  • Spring 2 - Week 1

    It has been a busy first week back to the term.

    In English, we have started our sentence stacking lessons where they have focused on a clip of Tad who is exploring the Ancient Egyptian pyramids. Pupils have had to identify what they have heard and seen using adjectives to describe their writing.

    In Maths, we have been focusing on using the column method to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit and 3 digits by 1 digit. Some pupils have explored reasoning and problem-solving questions.

    In Art, we have been looking at Anglo-Saxon Art, where we have drawn our own initials, drawn patterns to resemble Anglo-Saxon Art and used paint.

    In History, we have continued looking at our unit of work on the Anglo-Saxons, Scots and Vikings, where this week's lesson focused on the Vikings invading Britain.

    In Geography, we started a new unit of work based in the South West of England, where pupils had to identify the counties. We looked at some of the World Heritage Sites, the protected coastlines, areas of outstanding beauty and food produced in the South West of England.

    In Music, we answered questions based on a piece of music, we learnt the lyrics to a song and practised our singing to the song.
