Autumn Term 1 – Review
Autumn term 1 has seen a strong start to PE at Howard Junior. All pupils have accessed four Tag Rugby Lessons and four Fitness lessons – 8 hours of each. These are broken down into 2 hours of Physical education a week and 16 hours in total across the term.
We have seen pupils represent the school in sporting fixtures. 30 + children have had the opportunity to represent the school in a variety of competitions and festivals. These have been cross country, football, hockey and dodgeball.
There has been a heavy focus on the understanding and implementation of our Howard school values and expectations. Children who have had the opportunity to represent school teams have had additional training sessions, to aid the importance of practice and teamwork.
Monday mornings have seen an introduction of PE becoming a part of our celebration assemblies. Two pupils from the whole school are chosen as our ‘PE golden pupil’. They earn themselves a certificate and a prize. To win these; they must implement our Howard Junior school values throughout the whole lesson. A 10-15 segment is also held; with recognition and celebration of the children who have represented the school the previous week in fixtures. With information on the coming weeks fixtures and how children can become involved.
After school clubs have seen children participate in football, dance and team building and leadership clubs. These clubs have been heavily attended. Alongside our after-school clubs we have ran lunch time sports club also. These clubs have seen children participate in football, cross country, basketball and multi-sports.
Our Aspire suite children have also had the benefit of small group PE lessons with Miss Jacobs also.
Overall, we have had a positive start to Autumn Term 1 and the new school year.
Onwards and upwards.
