Summer 2 Week 1
➗ Maths
In Maths, we completed both arithmetic and reasoning papers, giving pupils the opportunity to practise a range of calculation strategies and apply their problem-solving skills. We focused on checking answers carefully, using efficient methods and explaining reasoning where appropriate. Alongside this, we finished our unit on time, revisiting key skills such as reading analogue and digital clocks, converting between units of time and solving word problems involving duration.
✏️ English
In English, pupils continued to build on their spelling knowledge through our weekly spelling activities, focusing on patterns and common exception words. We also worked on reading comprehension, where pupils practised retrieving and understanding information from a text. In addition, pupils developed their sentence construction skills by ordering sentences correctly, supporting their understanding of grammar, punctuation and overall sentence cohesion.
🌍 Geography
In Geography, we began our new topic exploring India and China. Pupils were introduced to key geographical and cultural features of both countries, including recognising their flags, identifying famous landmarks and exploring the different currencies used. We discussed similarities and differences between these countries and the UK to begin building a broader global understanding.

🕰️ History
In History, we explored the War of the Roses, focusing on the two rival families involved: the House of York and the House of Lancaster. Pupils learnt about the symbols associated with each side and used colouring activities to help reinforce their understanding of the two roses. This supported pupils in beginning to understand how and why conflicts occurred in the past.

🔬 Science
In Science, we started our learning on forces by exploring the difference between pushes and pulls. Pupils looked at a range of everyday scenarios and identified the type of force being used. Through discussion and practical examples, they began to understand how forces act on objects and how they can change movement.
