Summer 1 Week 4

Maths
This week in Maths, the children have been comparing numbers and unitising. They have been developing their understanding of place value by grouping numbers into equal parts and recognising the value of digits depending on their position. The children practised explaining their thinking, using mathematical language such as “greater than”, “less than” and “equal to”, and represented numbers in different ways to deepen their understanding.

✏️ English
In English, we continued our work on spelling, grammar and punctuation. The children focused on applying their knowledge within sentences, ensuring correct use of capital letters, full stops and other punctuation. We also explored the text The Peas and the Sneezes and responded to comprehension questions. This included retrieving key information from the text, discussing new vocabulary and explaining their ideas in full sentences.

🌍 Geography
In Geography, we continued our work on Western Europe and created a fact file about France. The children used atlases and information texts to find key facts such as the capital city, famous landmarks, climate and physical features. They presented their findings in a clear and organised way, developing both their research and presentation skills.

🕰️ History
During History lessons, we researched the relationship between King John and the Magna Carta. The children learnt about why the Magna Carta was created and the problems people faced during King John’s rule. They discussed how this important document helped to introduce ideas of fairness and rights, and why it is still significant today.

🔬 Science
In Science, we created a timeline to reflect the work of Mary Anning. The children learnt about her life and her important fossil discoveries, including how these helped scientists to understand prehistoric life. They carefully sequenced key events and discussed why her work is still important for scientists and geologists today.
