Summer 1 Week 3

➗ Maths

This week in Maths, the children have been learning about position and direction. They explored how to describe movement, including using language such as left, right, forwards and backwards, as well as understanding turns. This is helping to build their spatial awareness and confidence when following and giving instructions.

✏️ English

In English, we have continued our focus on spelling and grammar, particularly recognising and using adjectives to make our writing more descriptive and engaging. The children have also been developing their comprehension skills and practising weekly spellings. Alongside this, they have enjoyed creative writing based on The House in the Deep, using their imagination to create exciting ideas and descriptions.

🌍 Geography

In Geography, we have continued our topic on New Zealand, with a particular focus on earthquakes. The children explored how earthquakes are caused and began to understand the impact they can have on the environment and people living in affected areas.

🕰️ History

During History lessons, we continued exploring the Industrial Revolution, focusing specifically on steam engines. As part of this, the children took part in a practical activity where they designed and created their own simple models using balloons, straws and plastic bottles, helping them to understand how steam power works in an engaging, hands-on way.

🔬 Science

In Science, we have continued our topic on astronomy. This week, the children explored the planets and their positions in relation to Earth, developing their understanding of the solar system and how the planets orbit the Sun.
