Spring 2 Week 2

Mathematics

In Maths, we were introduced to the concepts of part and whole in relation to fractions. The children then moved on to recognising halves and quarters, building a strong foundation for understanding how shapes and quantities can be divided into equal parts.

✏️ English

This week, we began exploring our new text Gorilla by Anthony Browne. The children started with a Cold Write inspired by an image from the story, giving us valuable insight into their initial ideas. We then created, revisited and performed a story map to identify key events and deepen comprehension of the narrative.

🌍 Geography

In Geography, we learnt about the history of Australia, focusing in particular on the early explorations and the discoveries made by Captain James Cook. This helped the children understand how Australia became known to Europeans and the significance of Cook’s voyages.

🕰️ History

Our History lesson this week centred on the end of the Transatlantic slave trade. We explored the important role played by Thomas Clarkson, whose campaigning and evidence‑gathering contributed greatly to the abolition movement.

🔬 Science

In Science, we continued building our understanding of forces. The children created and labelled their own diagrams, helping them to visualise how different forces act on objects in real‑life scenarios.
