Spring 2 Week 2

Mathematics

In Maths, we continued exploring measures by focusing on mass, capacity and volume. The children practised using a range of equipment to compare, estimate and accurately measure, helping them apply their understanding to real‑life contexts.

✏️ English

This week, we introduced our new text Gorilla by Anthony Browne. The children began with a Cold Write based on an image from the story, allowing us to assess their initial ideas. We then created, revisited and performed a story map to identify key events and deepen our understanding of the narrative.

🌍 Geography

In Geography, we investigated coastal erosion in the South West of England. The children explored how natural processes shape landscapes and examined the impact of erosion on well‑known landmarks such as Durdle Door.

🕰️ History

Our History lesson introduced us to King Alfred and his role in defeating the Vikings. We learnt how Alfred’s army achieved victory, leading to Guthrum’s surrender—an important moment in the shaping of early English history.

🔬 Science

In Science, we continued our work on plants by examining how different species have different needs to survive and thrive. We compared a sunflower and a cactus to understand how plants adapt to their environments.
