Spring 2 Week 1

Mathematics

In Maths, we focused on measures. The children explored and compared the weight of different objects, identifying which items were heavier or lighter. We also practised measuring length using both everyday objects and standard centimetres, helping to build confidence in using non‑standard and standard units.

✏️ English

This week in English, we began our new theme centred around hosting a tea party. The children created invitations and menus, and followed a set of instructions to make a simple sandwich. This provided a fun and practical way to explore instructional writing and purpose.

🌍 Geography

In Geography, we continued to investigate the region of South West England. The children labelled maps, revisited the eight compass points, and identified some of the area’s most prominent landmarks. This helped strengthen their understanding of both regional geography and directional language.

🕰️ History

Our History sessions focused on life within the Danelaw. After watching a BBC Bitesize clip to gain insight into daily life in a Viking village, the children answered questions to demonstrate and deepen their understanding of the period.

🔬 Science

In Science, we were introduced to our new topic on plants. The children labelled the main parts of a plant and learnt about the role and function of each component. This foundational knowledge will support our investigations throughout the unit.
