Spring 1 Week 4

Maths
This week in Maths, the children not only completed their end‑of‑unit assessments, but also used Numicon to support their understanding of addition. They explored how different Numicon pieces can be combined to represent number bonds and help them visualise addition strategies. This hands‑on approach really boosted their confidence and accuracy.

✏️ English
In English, the children completed their reading and GPS assessments. Alongside this, we continued exploring poetry by James Carter and shared his playful poem Splish, Splash, Splosh. The class enjoyed discussing the rhythm and sound words that make Carter’s poetry so engaging.

🌍 Geography
In Geography, we focused on rivers in Asia. The children identified, labelled and located major rivers on a map, including the Yangtze, Ganges and Indus. They are becoming increasingly confident at using atlases and applying geographical vocabulary.

🕰️ History
In History, we explored Anglo‑Saxon beliefs and learned about the different gods worshipped during this time. The children were fascinated by gods and enjoyed comparing aspects of Anglo‑Saxon belief with what they have learnt in previous topics.

🔬 Science
In Science, we investigated shadows and how they are formed. Through practical activities, the children discovered how the position of a light source affects the size and shape of a shadow, and why opaque objects block light. They particularly enjoyed experimenting to see how shadows change as objects move closer or further from the torch.
