Spring 1 Week 3

Maths

This week in Maths, we explored doubling and then used our knowledge of number facts to help us subtract. The children practised applying these skills in a range of activities.

English

In English, we continued to look at poetry by exploring Firework by James Carter. We discussed his use of onomatopoeia and how it helps bring the poem to life.

Geography

Our Geography lessons focused on rivers in Africa. We also learnt about the importance of the River Nile to Ancient Egyptian farmers, particularly how it provided rich nutrients for the soil. The children developed an understanding of how rivers have played an important role in people’s lives throughout history.

History

As part of our Anglo‑Saxon topic, we investigated a range of Anglo‑Saxon artefacts and discussed what these objects can tell us about the past.

Science

In Science, we explored how mirrors reflect light. The children used mirrors to write their names — a fun but surprisingly tricky challenge, especially when they had to rely only on the mirror image instead of watching their hands!
