We have been learning:

English- continuing our sentence stacking lessons where we have been looking at using adjectives, similes and questions to create verses of a poem about a tree and its features

Maths - We have just finished looking at sharing and grouping, and are now moving into the 2,5 and 10 times tables!

Geography - we have been looking at different rivers in Europe and labelling a map to show these.

Science - We conducted an experiment as a class looking at how light shows through various objects. Children began to identify if an object is translucent, transparent or opaque. We then organised these objects into a chart to show our understanding and drew the rays from torches to support this.

History - we continued our learning on The Anglo Saxons, The Scots and The Vikings.

This week we explored settlements, and the children drew their own Anglo Saxon House. They were asked to write what the houses were like back in this time.

We also had a wonderful day at our Viking workshop where children were able to explore artefacts from this period of time, learn about the culture, what they ate and how they wrote. Children were able to explore clothing and discussed who would wear what depending on the financial status.

In Maths, we have been working on arrays and how numbers are shown through these. We have been getting used to columns and rows and how these are collections of numbers and counters in different directions. The children used coloured pencils to colour the groupings of counters and the direction they were gathered in to support their learning. They have also been discussing various reasoning and problem-solving questions throughout the week.

In English, we have been working on our sentence stacking lessons, where we have focused on questions, similes and adjectives to describe the woodland and various creatures.

In Religious Education, we have been continuing our learning about Hinduism. The children matched up the different Gods or Goddesses that Hindus believe in and drew pictures to represent these.

In Geography, we have been identifying rivers in Europe. We have discussed different facts about these rivers and how rivers sometimes flow through more than one place or even multiple countries.

In Spanish, we began looking at animals and learnt how to say lion, pig, rabbit, horse and duck.

In PSHE, we looked at our own dreams and goals, identifying what they are and why it is important to have dreams and goals. The children discussed what they wanted to be when they were older and set themselves some challenges for the future.

It has been a very busy first week back with lots of wonderful learning taking place!

In English, we have started looking at our unit on poetry where we have had to identify the shapes/features of the poem. In groups, children worked together to identify these, and then had to order the poem we were looking at. We then looked at shape poems and why poems do not need to all be the same but can be shown in various ways.

We began a new topic in History looking at the Anglo Saxons and the 7 Kingdoms. The children identified the 7 areas on a map, and we discussed where these people came from and the new kingdoms created.

In Religious Education, we have started our new unit of work where we have looked at Hinduism and discovered interesting facts about their beliefs.

In Geography, we started our unit on rivers where we discovered the different parts of rivers and what the names of these places are. The children then labelled their own maps and had to tell us why they would build a house or a village on the map and why.

In maths, we revisited some methods we've previously used to work out answers to questions, including the column method and number lines before we move onto our next unit. We used whiteboards to recap our previous learning, and shared and discussed these as a class.

In science, the children began a unit on Light. Children were asked to separate natural light objects and artificial light (man-made) objects. Children came up to the board and drew a line to match the side they felt these items belonged too. The task was then to draw a diagram showing light and then write how it could help humans, animals, and plants.

We have had many wonderful events happening, like our Christmas performances, Christmas parties, and Christmas end of term assembly.

We have also had an exciting opportunity to attend the Kings Lynn Museum and continue with our learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We played some Ancient Egyptian games, wrote in hieroglyphics, learnt about Ancient myths where we had the opportunity to act these out and created our own Ancient Egyptian sweet. It was a wonderful experience for all.

We also completed our D.T. project where we made our own keyrings. Pupils designed their own keyring, chose felt, designed it and used stitching to sew their keyring together.

We finished off on the Friday before Christmas with a class party! The children had a Christmas film, and we shared snacks and music and played some games!

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year 3/4C!!

We attended the Christmas Pantomime at the corn exchange, and it was a wonderful experience for all children to enjoy. We also attended our Christmas church service, with some performances from our choir and other classes.

In Geography, we looked at identifying reasons for the location of settlements where children designed their own and gave reasons as to why they had chosen that settlement.

In Maths, we continued looking at addition and subtracting, reminding ourselves that we needed to remember to exchange numbers and we had a mixture of questions to test ourselves on.

As a class we decorated the classroom and our class tree. The children decorated stockings and began to think about a few ideas for Christmas cards for their families, and we also started to colour our placemats for the Christmas lunch.

In Maths, we have continued our learning with subtraction, where we have subtracted 3 and 4 digit numbers across a 10 and then looked into numbers across a 100. We have engaged in lots of whiteboard work to solidify this and gain confidence in subtracting!

In English, we have been recapping nouns, adjectives and verbs, and

In Geography, we examined population density.

In PSHE, we looked at witnesses to bullying, how people feel when they are bullied, what bullying is and examples of bullying.

In R.E, we continued our learning with Christianity, where we designed a Christmas card for Jesus and used descriptors for Jesus such as; The Saviour of us all, Lord of Love, Prince of Glory.

In Science, we looked at the life cycle of a frog.

What a week we've had so far!

In Maths, we have looked at Roman Numerals. The children were excited about writing the numbers in different forms.

We also took part in the Number Confidence Life Assembly through Barclays Life Skills and National Numeracy. Children had questions to answer throughout the assembly and learnt how numbers are used lots in daily life. At the end of the assembly, children received a certificate for taking part.

In English, we have started looking at our next unit of writing, which is focused on a persuasive social media post looking at a Chocolate Yule Log. This week, we have looked at identifying the shapes throughout the text, which are; the photo/caption, hook questions, unique selling point, hard-hitting statistics, price/economics and call to action. We then looked at adverts and discussed the vocabulary used in them. The words the children used to describe the taste, look and smell of the food within the adverts were amazing!

In Science, we looked at the seasonal cycles; Autumn, Winter, Summer and Spring. We discussed how the Earth tilts, the Southern Hemisphere, Northern Hemisphere and the changes that happen throughout the cycles, including the temperature, animals and sunlight. The children labelled the diagram, and then wrote information about each cycle in their books.

In PSHE, we discussed how all families are different but that families have things in common, such as loving one another and caring for one another, and some with siblings. The children were then tasked with drawing their families and writing what their family means to them.

In Art, we looked at Still Life and Form, where we learnt about the Still Life with Peaches and Water Jar in the House of the Stags in Herculaneum. The children really enjoyed learning about the history behind the art and who created it.

In R. E, we looked at our Enquiry Question 'Has Christmas lost its true meaning?' We discussed how Christmas/holidays are celebrated and traditions that happen in families. A common theme and tradition in most households was playing board games with our family and all eating Christmas dinner together.

Last week, the children had their assessments in grammar, punctuation, spelling and reading. Well done to all for their incredible efforts, and for giving it their best shot!

In Computing, we have started our learning of e-safety. We began discussing what we should and shouldn't share online. We also discussed how we can stay safe online. In these lessons, the children will cover what it means to be safe online, and have created some amazing posters to outline the importance of not giving out any personal information to strangers. The children then, in pairs, completed a sheet ticking who they felt personal information should be shared with, and then we discussed as a class to see who else agreed.

In English, we spent some time working on our dictionary skills. As a class, we thought of some words to search for. The children were asked to find out the word class of the selected work, the definition and then find out the synonym of the word using the thesaurus.

We have been working hard on creating our draft version of our alternative version of a fairy tail story where pupils continued with the plot and how the wolf has escaped jail. Pupils used incredible adjectives, alliteration and really thought about creative ways the wolf could escape to freedom. We then edited and rewrote our story.

In Science, geography and history, we completed an end-of-unit assessment looking at identifying keywords that we have used throughout the unit of work and completing a multiple-choice quiz. The children then shared something from each subject that they had learnt.

In PSHE, we carried on looking at Sam and his feelings. We shared thoughts and ideas using post-it notes, writing about how other people's actions would impact Sam, and how we thought he may be feeling. We then thought about how we would make him feel if he was to begin in a classroom with us.

Have a great week off everyone!

In PSHE, we looked at a letter from Sam, who had never been to school. We discussed why he might be scared to start, the responsible actions and choices we could make to help him and how he might feel once he is settled in. Pupils come up with ideas about our school values, such as diversity and celebrating everyone's differences. Pupils also shared how they would respect him and look after his wellbeing, as well as getting to know him and show him around the school.

This week we have looked at representing numbers to 10,000, partitioning numbers and discussing various problems relating to these areas.

We did lots of work on how we can flexibly partition the numbers in different ways, and how the same number can be added differently, but still total the same answer.

In Science, we began our unit on The Human Body.

We have been looking at involuntary muscles being the muscles that we cannot control, including our heart and voluntary muscles, the muscles that we can control.

Pupils had to write about what a voluntary and involuntary muscle was, and then we had a class discussion on parts of the body they thought were voluntary or involuntary and why.

In Geography, we looked at what a compass was and how these are used to support navigation. Pupils had to label a compass with all 8 points.

We then looked at a map of King's Lynn. Using this compass, we identified places around us that are within the points on the compass.

In English, we have been continuing our sentence stacking lessons where we have looked at what the wolf's inner thoughts might be when he realises that he has no sugar for his cake. Pupils have had to use complex sentences to show how the wolf was walking to the straw house and repetition in sentences for effect.

In R. E. we started our learning on the following enquiry question: "Does joining the Khalsa make someone a better Sikh?"

The pupils discussed clubs they belong to and what it feels like to belong to a group/community. Pupils discussed what they had to do to be part of their chosen club, how they have a sense of belonging and the feelings they felt throughout, such as; proud, happy, excited, respected. Pupils had the opportunity to watch a video where a child went to a martial arts club and shared the feelings she felt before joining and when she had joined. As well as this, the child shared how they represent their club, the uniform they wear and how they feel wearing the uniform.

In Art, pupils learnt about lines and sketches. The pupils had opportunities to use different thickness pencils and create sketches using different lines.

Pupils learnt the importance of lines and how they create sketches as well as how these can be created in a range of materials like paint, crayons, watercolours and felt tips.

In Maths, we started our unit of learning on place value. This meant recognising the value of digits in numbers and using a place value chart alongside place counters and Base 10.

In English, we have started our unit of writing on 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs'.

In our first lesson, the pupils had to think of questions to ask the wolf. Some of the questions were how come the story had been told differently, and what actually happened at the door of the pig's house? The wolf responded with it was an accident, and he had a terrible, powerful sneeze, and would tell the real story as the lessons went on.

As we continued with the learning, pupils have created some wonderful sentences where they have used feelings, complex sentences, adjectives, time/place adverbials and have had to remember basic punctuation (capital letters and full stops).

In History, we have started our unit of work on the Stone Age to Iron Age, where we looked at how people lived in Britain during the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic ages. Pupils looked at what they ate in these times, the resources they had, and the discoveries made by archeologists.
