  • Summer 1 - Week 5

    In Maths, we continued our learning with fractions where we focused on subtracting from mixed numbers, finding unit and non-unit fractions of amounts.

    In Geography, we looked at Dover, discussing the key features of Dover, considering the use of the ports.

    In Science, we focused on precipitation returning water to the surface of the Earth. The children had to draw a diagram and explain this part of the water cycle.

  • Week Beginning 02/06/25

    In English, we have been plotting our narrative map, planning and writing our play script. Children have recapped the skills that we had previously learnt in our sentence stacking lessons.

    In Maths, we have continued our learning of fractions with reasoning and problem-solving questions. Children then moved onto mass and capacity, where they looked at measuring mass in grams. 

     

    In computing, children have been learning to edit images using crop, rotate, brightness and colour.

     

    In R. E, we have recapped the Eightfold Path that Buddhists believe in. As a class, we made a list of 10 things that are causing problems in the world. Some children worked in groups and some worked independently where they had to create an ideal world – a world with no suffering, by considering the needs of humans and animals. The children had to consider the following questions.

    • How would people treat each other?
    • What sort of jobs would there be?
    • What entertainments would there be?
    • How would you make sure people had enough food and health care?

  • Summer 1 - Week 4

    Wow! What glorious weather we had at the start of the week. As the weather was so lovely, we went into the Castle Fort area to read our books.

    In groups, children worked together to gather examples of the Eightfold Path that a Buddhist might put into action in their lives. Children shared ideas and created a poster with their examples on them. 

    In Maths, we have been continuing our learning with fractions where we have had to add, subtract and also look at mixed numbers and improper fractions.

    In English, we have been continuing our sentence-stacking lessons where children have had the opportunity to act out scenes from the play to help them with understanding how the person may have acted, including the body language and facial expressions.

    In History, we have continued looking at the Civil War, where we have looked at the impact of the war and the consequences of Charles I actions and the Civil War.

    In our handwriting lessons, we have been working really hard to achieve as many pen licences as possible. Therefore, we have been practising as much as possible. This week's focus has been practising our handwriting with mathematical vocabulary.

  • Week Beginning 5TH May 2025

    In our English lessons we have been looking at 'The Plague in Eyam'. Children have been looking at our sentence stacking lessons where pupils have had to ask questions and describe the swellings and rashes. 

    In our grammar lessons we have looked at using or an in sentences identifying which one to use correctly.

    In Maths, we have been continuing our learning with fractions where we have been converting improper fractions to mixed numbers using our timetables knowledge to support our learning.

    In PSHE, we have been discussing memories and reasons as to why we may no longer see someone. As part of this lesson, the children had an image of Tammy, who was a dog that Jigsaw Jaz had sadly lost due to an illness. The children had to design something for Jigsaw Jaz to put in a memory box that gave him a memory of Tammy.

  • Summer 1 - Week 2

    In Maths, pupils have been continuing their learning with fractions. This week, pupils looked at improper fractions, partitioning and comparing mixed numbers. We have had the opportunity to use our Eco Pod in this glorious weather to complete some of our maths. 

    In PSHE, we have discussed love and loss and the emotions felt with these. Pupils had the opportunity to discuss objects that they had lost and how they felt, as well as important people and animals to them. Pupils shared their emotions about how they felt during these real-life experiences. Pupils then had different situations, such as moving house and a new school, when a pet dies/grandparents and how they may feel in these situations.

    In Science, pupils compared the three main states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. They discussed what they were and completed an experiment with ice where they had to predict whether the temperature would increase or decrease and record the temperature.

  • Week 1 - Summer 1

    In English, we looked at a play called 'The Plague comes to Eyam'. Pupils had the opportunity to explore and research Eyam as well as act out the play script. Pupils had to discuss the shapes in the play script and identify them. 

    In PSHE, we began our topic on relationships and pupils discussed what jealousy is and the reasons behind why somebody may be jealous. Pupils had scenarios where they discussed ways to problem-solve situations and manage jealousy so it doesn’t result in unhelpful behaviour.

    In Maths, we looked at equivalent fractions, counting beyond one and looking at understanding the relationship between division and multiplication with fractions. 

    In R.E we looked at our new enquiry question, which was 'What is the best way for a Buddhist to lead a good life?' In groups, pupils shared ideas in different situations about the different choices people could make and the consequences of their actions.

  • Week Beginning 31st March 2025

    WOW! It certainly has been a busy last week of the term.

    All the children had the opportunity in D.T to create their own cushions and learn sewing techniques. All the pupils worked really hard despite this being challenging and a new experience for some children. The children then had to evaluate what they would have done differently if they were to do it again.

    In Computing, we have been looking at computer systems and their networks. Pupils have looked at examples of emails and decided whether they would allow or block. This opened up many conversations about the number of scams that happen around the world. Pupils have looked at the World Wide Web and discussed how they can find out where the website is from by looking at the address.

    In English, we have edited and rewritten our poems all based around strength. Some children chose to use their repeated phrases as 'I power on', 'I power through,' 'I am tough' and others.

  • Week Beginning 24th March 2024

    We have had a very exciting event take place this week. Years 3 and 4 had an Ancient Rome experience day when they got to learn about the artefacts used, look at Roman coins and design their own ones. They had the opportunity to create posters based on recruiting soldiers and whether they would keep or give away the treasure that was left. They also had the opportunity to wear Roman armour, look at weapons and experience what it would have been like.

    In English, we have been planning and writing our own poems based on strength and resilience. Pupils have had to think of a repeated phrase they would use throughout. 

    In Science, we looked at the ear. Pupils had to draw a picture of the ear, label the key parts of the ear and write step-by-step instructions about how the ear works to help us hear sound.

  • Week Beginning 17/03/25

    In groups, children completed a quiz all about the coliseum where they learnt different facts, such as when it was built, who it was built by and what material it was made out of. They then worked together to finish creating their pantheon model.

    In English, we have been continuing with our sentence-stacking lessons, using feelings, similes, repetition and metaphors. We have also created our success criteria and plotted our narrative map.

    In Maths, we have moved onto fractions where we looked at the numerator, denominator and the whole. We also looked at fractions on a number line. 

    In R.E, we have looked at Christianity and forgiveness. We looked at different scenarios and discussed which inspirational quotes matched with each scenario.

  • Week Beginning 10/03/25

    In Maths, we have been looking at division where we then move onto dividing with a remainder. Pupils have used place value and counters to help support their learning of this concept.

    In Science, we have been looking at sound where this week's focus was on pitch. As a class, we completed an experiment looking at how high or low a pitch is and why the pitch can be different.

    In PSHE, pupils looked at smoking and its effects. Pupils had different scenarios where they acted them out.

    In Geography, we have started looking at Northern Ireland. This week focussed on Northern Ireland and learning about tourism. Pupils were able to learn about the history of Northern Ireland and what tourists like about Northern Ireland.

    In History, pupils looked at Julius Ceasar, learnt about his assassination and his life. 

    In Maths, we have been looking at dividing by exchanging and without exchanging.

    In P.E - pupils have continued their learning of football where they have been learning the rules and certain techniques. The children experienced mini-football matches.

  • Week Beginning 24/02/25

    In English, we have looked at a poem, 'Still I Rise', by Maya Angelou. The pupils have learnt what the shapes are and have been looking at creating a poster all about the author of the poem.

    In PSHE, we have looked at friendships and how we make different friendships and why it is important to have different friendships.

    In History, we are looking at the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, where this week's focus was on the Punic wars where pupils wrote about when they happened and what happened.
